Pre-K Program
At Metrokids Pre-K, we respect our children and understand and support their natural curiosity. We are on the cutting edge of 21st century education. Every day is filled with playful exploration, smiles, and fun. Children are active and playful participants in their own learning. The physical environment is arranged so that all children can easily access materials and become successful learners. Children demonstrate curiosity and initiative while using their imagination, ingenuity, and creativity throughout the day.
Our Teachers
Our teachers carefully plan intentional learning outcomes using many different and exciting activities. Children are engaged in the active learning process, involving the development of language, scientific thought, creativity, and critical thinking skills. Our Pre-K students become familiar with print concepts, phonics, and word recognition. We encourage children to respond to literature and then display these responses in a print-rich environment. Teachers facilitate collaboration and cooperation among peers. Our staff members are trained in language modeling, advanced language, and extended feedback loops. These classroom teacher tools are an integral part of our program. They are implemented to increase your child’s awareness, facilitate concept development, and build expressive language.
Our Students
Our students develop their cognition and are presented with mathematical activities that include geometry, counting, comparing data, simple operations, measurement, coding, analogies, statistics, and logic. Children love to count, compare sizes, and learn in fun and interesting ways. They are provided with hands-on materials that are attractive and interesting.
Science is also an important part of each child’s day as they ask questions, make predictions, and experiment with causality. Our students develop STEM thinking through these quality interactions, daily observations, and playful participation in the pre-kindergarten classroom. Experienced teachers plan thematic units in all subject areas, preparing children for a smooth transition to kindergarten with a rich and robust learning foundation.
A wide variety of literacy-based learning experiences is the foundation for the exploration of theme-based learning. Strategy problem-solving modalities are explored to promote intellectual growth and school success. As children use their language, literacy, mathematical, and cognitive skills to think, problem solve, and communicate, they are making sense of their world through the use and selection of several learning strategies.
Multicultural & multidisciplinary education
At Metrokids Pre-K, we involve our families in many culturally responsive ways. We share in international feasts and celebrations. We learn to dance, to create, and to experience many different styles from around the world. We welcome you to become a member of our Metrokids Pre-K community, where we learn to appreciate, respect, and understand many cultures and different types of families.
Multicultural and multidisciplinary education is of paramount importance for young learners. Metrokids Preschool provides unique and varied experiences for these very active learners. We welcome theater groups, dancers, and local artists to perform and lead workshops as well as take the children on cultural excursions. The Pre-K curriculum at Metrokids Preschool is designed to encourage four-year-olds to be imaginative, energetic, inquiry-based learners who explore the classroom environment with curiosity and purpose. Preschoolers are eager to learn, and school activities are designed to involve and engage these young students with interesting lessons and materials. Experienced teachers plan thematic units in math, literacy, science, social studies, art, and music and movement to thoroughly prepare children for a smooth transition to kindergarten with a rich, robust learning foundation.
A child-centered learning environment
Students make independent choices in a child-centered learning environment, guided by well-established structures and routines. Opportunities for hands-on learning are presented daily, allowing students to grow through play and real-world experiences. Daily activities are scheduled in whole group and small groups to promote socialization and community building. Students engage in conversations with teachers and friends daily, learning to take turns, listen, and share.
Print-rich classrooms enable students to be immersed in literacy acquisition, developing letter and word recognition. Throughout the day, physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development are nurtured in a warm, caring, safe environment, providing students with the early skills to become lifelong learners.
Test Prep for Gifted and Talented kindergarten Programs
Test prep activities are embedded in the curriculum to prepare our Pre-K students for the admission exams for Gifted and Talented public school and independent private school kindergarten programs. We attempt to give our students an advantage through practice, exposure, and familiarity with test-taking skills and formatting.
